Is local storage a type of cookie?
Not exactly, but it serves a similar purpose and falls under the same rules. We treat it in the same way as cookies.
Cookies are the best-known way for a website to remember a visitor, but they are not the only one. Modern sites and apps also use local storage, pixels, scripts and software development kits. Because the cookie policy would be incomplete without them, this page describes these related technologies, what BetBooker uses them for, how long the data stays and how you can control it. It applies to the website, to betbooker login and to the betbooker app, for players in Ghana.
Rules about online identifiers do not depend on the name of the technology. Anything that stores or reads information on your device, or that sends data about your behaviour to a server, deserves the same openness and choice. For that reason, we treat the technologies below in the same way as cookies: necessary ones are set without asking, and optional ones wait for your consent.
Browsers offer small storage areas for websites, named local storage and session storage. They work like cookies in some respects, but their contents are not sent to the server with every request, and they can hold larger amounts of data.
Control. You can delete local storage with the site data option in your browser. Clearing it resets the settings listed above. Neither storage type holds your password, payment details or documents.
A pixel is a tiny, invisible image that loads from a server. When the image is requested, the server learns that the page or the message was opened, the time and the technical details of the request.
On the website. Marketing partners may place a pixel to count a registration or a deposit that followed an advert. Pixels from partners are loaded only if you accept marketing cookies.
In emails. Some of our promotional emails contain a pixel that shows whether a message was opened. This helps us to remove inactive addresses and to avoid sending messages that nobody reads. You can stop it by blocking image loading in your email program or by unsubscribing from promotions. Service messages, such as withdrawal notices, do not contain marketing pixels.
A script is a small program that runs in your browser and may collect information about how you use a page, for example the time it took to load or the button that you pressed. We use tag management software to load these scripts in an organised way. It lets us check that only approved tools run and that optional tools are blocked until you have given consent.
The betbooker app includes software development kits supplied by other companies. They provide functions such as crash reporting, push notifications and measurement of installs. A kit may read the device model, the operating system version, the language, an installation identifier and, if you allow it, the advertising identifier.
You control the optional kits in the privacy menu of the app and in the settings of your phone. Crash reports and notifications that you request are treated as necessary. A detailed description of app data appears in the app privacy policy.
Even without cookies, a browser reveals features such as the screen size, the language, the fonts and the version of the system. When these features are combined, they can distinguish one device from another. This approach is called fingerprinting.
BetBooker uses a limited form of device recognition for security: to detect bots, to spot an attempt to open a second account in breach of the rules and to ask for a code when a login comes from an unknown device. We do not use fingerprinting for advertising, and we do not use it to follow players across other websites. We ask our security providers to follow the same restriction.
The betbooker casino offers games that are built and hosted by licensed providers. When a game opens, it may use local storage or its own identifiers to remember the sound setting, the last stake that you used and the language of the game window. It also keeps a session code that connects each round with your account for audit purposes. These items are necessary for the game to run and to produce a reliable history of results. Providers use the data under contract with BetBooker, and they may not use it to market other products to you. If a game stops loading correctly, clear the site data for the game provider’s domain in your browser and open the game again.
Every request to the website is recorded in a log file, which includes the IP address, the time, the page requested, the type of browser and the response of the server. The logs are used to keep the service stable, to investigate errors and attacks and to meet legal duties. Access to logs is restricted to technical staff, and logs are deleted or anonymised after the period shown below.
We derive an approximate location from your IP address, for example the country or region, so that we can apply the rules of the Gaming Act, 2006 (Act 721) and show content that suits your market. The website does not ask for precise GPS data. The app asks for it only if a feature clearly requires it, and you can refuse.
The periods below describe how long each category is kept under the practices outlined in this notice.
| Technology or data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookies and session storage | Sign-in and page flow | Until the session ends |
| Persistent necessary cookies | Security, consent record, device recognition | Up to 12 months |
| Functional cookies and local storage | Preferences | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics identifiers | Statistics | Up to 24 months; reports in combined form kept up to 26 months |
| Marketing cookies and pixels | Measuring campaigns | 30 to 90 days |
| Server logs | Security and troubleshooting | Up to 12 months |
| Login history of an account | Security and legal duties | Up to 12 months, longer if an investigation is open |
| Consent records | Proof of your choices | For as long as needed to show compliance |
| App crash reports | Repair of faults | Up to 12 months |
After the period ends, data is deleted or anonymised. Records connected to legal duties, such as anti-money laundering rules, follow the longer periods set in the privacy policy.
Curious players can see most of these items without special tools. In a desktop browser, open the developer tools by pressing the function key F12 and choose the Application or Storage tab. Cookies, local storage and session storage for the BetBooker domain are shown in separate lists. On a phone, the site data page of the browser lists the domain and the amount of storage in use. In the app, open the phone settings, find the app and view the storage section, where you can clear the cache. Looking at these lists from time to time gives you a clear picture of what is kept, and it makes it easier to decide which choices to make in the settings.
When BetBooker Ghana considers adding a new tool, we ask the following questions:
If a tool does not pass these questions, it is not added. If it passes but needs consent, it stays off until you agree.
Technologies that support marketing are switched off for accounts in a time-out or self-exclusion. We stop sending conversion events to advertising partners, remove the account from audience lists and cease promotional emails and push messages. Necessary technologies stay active, because they are needed to enforce the restriction and to keep the account secure.
This notice is reviewed at least twice a year and whenever we introduce a new category of technology or change a provider in a way that affects your data. The date of the last revision is shown at the top of the page. For changes that need your consent, the cookie banner appears again. Significant changes are also announced by a message after betbooker login, so that registered players see them.

The Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) gives you the right to know what data is collected through these technologies, to correct it, to object to processing based on legitimate interest and to withdraw consent at any time. You can ask for a copy of the technical data linked to your account through the contact page, and we answer within 30 days. You may complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana if you are not satisfied.
